Piper and her friends want a physical clubhouse to meet in, but it costs way more money than their parents are willing to shell out. So Piper decides she'll get a job to make the money. She looks at what the people in her life need and decides to offer her services, whether they be babysitting, party planning, or illustrating. However, things start to go wrong when Piper overextends herself, trying to juggle her multiple jobs and schoolwork as well.

This is one of those easily relatable stories about everyday kid stuff. While it is the third book in a series, it didn't seem to matter all that much that I hadn't read the previous ones. It would probably have helped somewhat in the beginning when Piper referenced some "last school year" people and events, but it wasn't strictly necessary.

In terms of representation, it was good to see a book about a military child as there aren't all that many out there dealing with the everyday side of it (i.e., we weren't dealing with a parent deployed but rather with life on base). There is a brief mention of Piper having dyslexia, although this was not explored in detail. (Perhaps in another title it is.) However, there did not seem to be a whole lot of diversity in terms of race or ethnicity. (Again, it's possible that some of the other characters were introduced as such in a previous book but not in this one.)

For the audiobook reader, the narrator did a very good job. My one tiny quibble is that her speech pattern for Piper's catchphrase "get off the bus!" sometimes came across as threatening rather than exclamatory.

Overall, this was a decent read for elementary school-age children looking for a light read with relatable characters and situations. Piper's antics will likely amuse young readers. ( )

Piper Reed and her friends need a clubhouse for their club meetings. The only problem is that the clubhouse cost $1999. Piper starts a party planning business and takes on other jobs. Nothing goes according to plan though.

I think the book is really cute and funny. It is one from a series of books by Kimberly Willis Holt about a young girl named Piper Reed. She is the daughter of a military man and has moved around a lot. This books and the rest of the series would be great to use with my students, especially if they too are military brats. They could be very relatable. ( )

Piper Reed and the Gypsy Club need a clubhouse. Unfortunately it will cost close to $2000. Piper decides to get a job. She puts a sign in her front yard that says she designs party planner. She decides to help her younger sister by illustrating her book and when her older sister needs someone to cover her babysitting job she takes on that task as well. Add to all of this her school project and you have a disaster in the making. This was an easy and wuick book to read, and a lot of fun. ( )

Piper Reed and her friends need $1999 to buy a clubhouse so they can have a little privacy and Piper is determined to figure out how to earn the money. So she starts a birthday party planning business, but things start to snowball (as they often do) and Piper will have to think on her feet to keep everything from blowing up in her face.

Piper Reed is a spunky, likeable, imperfect girl and the series is perfect for fans of Judy Moody and Clementine. The book has it's really funny moments and I love all the supporting characters, especially Piper's sisters. ( )
