This story is very close to my heart for many reasons; it takes place in New Orleans and I’m from Louisiana. She’s the first African American Princess and also she’s very determined and focused like me. This was a great book and a fantastic movie. I loved the cultural aspects in this book and the biracial relationship between the princess and the prince. The story is a fairy tale but points out the fact that even with a happy ending, you can still struggle. This book is one of my favorites and I can’t wait until my daughter is born and I can read it to her.
This book would be great to read to a group of underprivileged girls; giving them hope and motivation. The sky is the limit and kids need to understand that the only things that can stop them are themselves. This book is great for multicultural teaching.
