Anyone can enjoy this book. Great, positive writeup with charming illustrations, it doesn't matter if it's not up to date with reality, in fact it makes it even more valuable for the glimpse into the Netherlands of half a century ago. ( )

A wholly fascinating book about the history of The Netherlands’ topographic and hydrologic problems and solutions. The author’s charming illustrations brought it all to life. From drawings of places, to maps and diagrams of various windmills and workings of dikes and their machinery. If you are interested in how the Dutch have safeguarded their land with dikes, how those dikes have been improved upon over time, and how they drained their interior with windmills, then more horsepower, to create their polders, you would enjoy this book.
