This Nancy Drew mystery occurs when Nancy is pushed off a cliff while helping a plant look for the Tillybin plant which Dr. Carver believes could be a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. The group finds that the rope bridge they just crossed has been cut to prevent access to the other side of a ravine scheduled to become the site of a new wind turbine farm. If they find the plant by the next day then the government will wait 3 months to build the turbines. While she is hanging on the cliff she deduces that Adam Finster had pushed her because he had bought tons of stock in the construction company and didn’t want construction to be delayed. After solving that mystery, she discovers that the root that held her up was also a Tillybin plant!

I thought this graphic novel was very well done. The story telling was incredibly personal and very persuasive. It kept me interested until the end. I also liked how it gave real information on the somatic reflex and wind farms. The pictures were also very bright, detailed, and pleasant to look at. The panels changed depending on the action and what was being said so they flowed appropriately with the story and kept it interesting.
Classroom Extension Ideas:

1. The class can draw or paint what they believe the Tillybin plant looks like. The pictures can all be displayed in the classroom for all to see.

2. The class can research what wind farms are and what they do. How do they benefit the environment? You can even take the class on a field trip to an area where there are wind farms to see for themselves how large they are. ( )

Nancy Drew and friends are accompanying Dr. Elise Carver on a hiking trip to find a rare plant that could help cure Alzheimer’s. During their excursion, a roped drawbridge was tampered with causing them to detour from their planned route. Nancy thinks she knows who sabotaged the bridge and sets out to prove it.
