Waiting Out the Storm is a very good book that shows a little girl and her mother are about to get some rain in their area. When the little girl starts to hear a noise, she asks her mother what it is and her mother says that its the wind. Then the little girl asks her mother more questions about the weather. Then her mother answers the questions the little girl had. The little girl then asks her mother what will the turtles will do. Her mother then answers that they like to be out in the rain. After that the little girl continues to ask where certain animals were going to go during the storm. her mother then proceeds to answer the little girls question about where the animals will go during the storm. Finally, the little girl and her mother go inside so they wouldn't get wet and safe from the storm. Also so that they can have one another during the storm. The drawings in this book makes the reader be able to see and understand what the author is trying to get across to the reader. This book is showing readers that everyone should have a safe place to go to during a storm or during a hard time. ( )

A girl and her mother are outside when a thunderstorm approaches. The girl asks her mother about all the different noises in the natural world, and what the animals do, when the rain falls. The mother answers and, as the two make their way inside and watch the storm from the comfort of their house, they wait out the storm.

A young child and her mother sit inside a cozy house and discuss what's happening with the weather and the animals outside. The words are descriptive and bring out the poetic nature in weather.

I really enjoyed the gentle, rhyming text and the soft color illustrations fit wonderfully. This book was like a reassuring lullabye that I think children and their mothers would both enjoy.
