This informational book is about tornados. It begins with the Super Tuesday tornado outbreak that occurred in February of 2008. Throughout this book, it discusses the top tornado disasters that have happened throughout history. It also explains what tornados are, how they're formed, and breakthroughs that scientists have made.
Personal Reaction:
This is a terrific informative book on tornados. It would be a great addition to a classroom library for those who enjoy science. I do like the personal stories that were told regarding experiences in actual tornados. Also, there were a lot of photographs of the different size tornados along with damage that they caused. There were also inserts throughout stating facts and statistics, and a chart showing the Fujita scale. At the end, it even gives safety tips.
Classroom Extension Ideas:
1. We could make a tornado in a jar. This would be a great hands on activity. The students add water to their jar, then soap, close the lid, and then shake in circles.
2. Students could do some research on the Internet about some of the tornado outbreaks that have occurred in history. They can write down at least three facts that they discovered. ( )
