I wanted to like it. I've loved things that the illustrator did before. But I didn't. ( )

Angelica Longrider, a.k.a. Swamp Angel, is a larger than life heroine who saves her neighbors from an equally larger than life thief named Backward Bart and his unruly bunch of bandits. Throughout the folk tale, Angel takes part in building some of nature's most glorious sights like carving out the Grand Canyon, forming the buttes of Montana and creating Sawtooth Ridge. There is no shortage of outlandish characters and fantastical events. The fun illustrations and outrageousness of the tale will keep children riveted.
Personally, I do not care much for folk tales. Beginning with Paul Bunyan when I was a kid, I subconsciously avoided folk tales after that. I enjoy a good story, but the cynic in me thinks that having such exaggerated events detract from the story. ( )

I read this book several times to what going on. It's all over the place with the pictures and text. I wouldn't recommend it.ee ( )

I don't blame the creators for capitalizing on Swamp Angel, but this one just didn't have the spark of originality that one did, imo. ( )

As tall tales go, this one was exceptional. I really liked the story. It was entertaining and over the top just as any good tall should be. Very nicely written and impressively told. ( )
