Similar to books in the "Scientists in the Field" series, as it gives a lot of space to discussions of contemporary research (2010) on the animals. More enjoyable for me than some of those books, as it doesn't feel the need to give personal information about the researchers. As a child, I knew that wooly mammoths and mastodons were not the same, but this reminds me of the differences, which is nice. It uses a story line build around the conceit of filming an action packed documentary on the various beasts, which works quite well. There is no etymology of the names, which I would have liked. The illustrations are a mix of scenes from the past and photos of modern researchers at work, and are generally quite good. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

The book was about mammoths, and focused on a baby mammoth that was found frozen and preserved. It discussed how scientists learn about animals that are extinct using there bones and making scientific guesses. ( )
