- Amnon Dankner was born in Jerusalem, Israel. His parents were the owners of the well-known Cafe Allenby. He attended the Maaleh religious public elementary school. He served in the Nahal Brigade and earned a law degree from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In the 1970s, he was the spokesman for the Israeli Ministry of Education and the Jewish Agency. He became a reporter for Haaretz, the Washington correspondent for Davar, a columnist for Hadashot, and editor-in-chief of Maariv from 2002 to 2007. He also was one of the hosts of the popular Israeli TV political talk show Popolitika. He later took up acting, playing a corrupt politician on the political comedy series Polishuk (2009-2015). He was the author of 12 books. In 2001, Dankner won Israel Media Watch’s Abramowitz Prize for Media Criticism, with the judges citing his courage
"to touch on all aspects of Israeli society." Dankner and his wife Miri had two sons and lived in Ramat Ha'sharon.
