This was a different version of Sleeping Beauty. I did not enjoy it as much as I had hoped to, but it was cute. I enjoyed that it was a bilingual version of the story because it allows more children to be able to read it. This version of Sleeping Beauty tells that she was cursed with a spell that she would prick her finger on a spindle, and would die. An older fairy adjusted this spell to she would sleep for 100 years and her prince would come and wake her. The story has a cute story line, but I did not enjoy it.… (mehr)

This book puts a spin on the original Sleeping Beauty. It is told in both Spanish and English making the book really fun to read going back and forth trying to figure out the words. This story keeps you entertained with everything that is going on in it. A king and queen are expecting a baby and they are holding a feast for all the fairies to share their gifts with the new princess. A grouchy old fairy joins them and instead of saying something positive she says the princess will prick herself with a spindle and die. One of the nicer fairies change the spell around a bit and says that after she pricks herself she will sleep for 100 years and so will everyone else in the castle. The king destroys or thinks he destroys all the spindles in the realm until one day a old women in the castle is spinning thread and the princess wants to try. She pricks her finger and everyone in the castle sleeps for 100 years until a prince comes to kiss the princess to wake her and the whole castle up. The king and queen face difficult trials but lived happily ever after. Great book to read to readers because just from the title they would think they already are going to know exactly what's going to happen.… (mehr)

While I may not understand a word of Spanish other than "adios" I thought this version of Sleeping Beauty was great. It was a short and simple retelling with adorable illustrations with interesting color choices that emphasized shading. I think the language used would be great for storytelling. It's succinct and expressive.

Aurora was cursed by a witch to sleep forever when she pricks her finger on a spindle. The king, fearful of this happening, commands the palace to burn all spindles. When Aurora finds a spindle and pricks her finger, causing her to sleep for 100 years. A good witch comes and casts a spell on everyone in the palace to sleep and never age, so that Aurora is not left alone when she wakes. A prince sees the castle 100 years later and gives Aurora a kiss which breaks the spell.
