The stars above are rounded off. I would like to give it 7.5 to 8 stars out of 10.
Spread over 19 chapters, the book - That Thing About You - explores a story of self-discovery. The title of the book quite significantly conveys the same. ----- The Plot: The first chapter starts with a discussion between a young and an old fellow sitting somewhere far. Not on the earth. The place is unknown to mankind and thus remain unknown to the readers also. They decide a plan and you will find a reference to it nowhere in the book. So, is it written arbitrarily? Well, a bird’s eye view of the story cannot answer all the queries :).
We meet Subodh and Ishaan. Both of them shares a flat and working in the same company. Their personalities are in almost contrast to each other!
Sneha is one of their colleagues. She is a good friend of Subodh and Subodh developed feelings of love for her. She, however, considers him just a friend. It was Sneha’s conversation with one of her friends overheard by Subodh, which made his life upside down.
What she told to her friend? Will the protagonist take it in a revengeful manner? And where does the title of the book fit in all these things? Well, reading the book can unveil the answers. ----- Views and Reviews: It is the first book by the author. But most of the readers don’t care for the fact, right? They want something with a substance for their money. The question is, whether the book passes the test in those aspects? The short answer is yes.
This book is quite relevant to current times when movies like “Arjun Reddy” or “Kabir Singh” gets a good response from the audience. Love is a very pure and pious phenomenon. If you get it from the person you wish, you are probably one of the luckiest persons. But, in case you face the rejection, then? Well, the way you behave in such a difficult situation reveal your true character.
We must appreciate the author for choosing such a tough topic and talking about it in a flawless manner in the book. The book could easily have been a heavy read, the author, however, didn't let that happen. And, that is one of the positive aspects of the book.
The way the characters of Subodh and Ishan are developed is interesting. It will remind you of some of your classmates or roommates for sure. Some situations in the book are filmy though. And, yes, we all love to explore the fantasy world and enjoy the same, right?
If the link between the first and the last chapter has been established in a better and a detailed manner, it would have made the reading experience better for a reader.
----- Overall, a nice book which explores an interesting story while conveying some important real-life lessons.
