This book covers its topic thoroughly. I did not notice ant interesting stories embedded in the subject matter, so it is not exactly an exciting read, just the facts, but very detailed and organized coverage.

There are numerous figures showing music segments that illustrate the author's explanations.

Another good resource, this textbook is easy to read and written by a true modern master, Samuel Adler. Adler is easy to read and doesn't try to go over his audience's head with language or theory. Study of Orchestration uses appropriate and accessible musical examples. One of the better Orchestration textbooks I have read!

The best text out there for Orchestration. I would caution that purchasing the CD's greatly enhances the experience, and that not having them will severely limit your learning. Simply put, you can't beat aural training- something a book can't give you.
