Good article on Limning. One on the use of Vellum. One on Cross-stitch in the Middle Ages and Renaissance. An article on group dynamics and one on hosting events in real castles in Drachenwald. A recipe for "knight's bread"/payne perdu. An article on getting 3 shield and 3 bucklers out of a sheet of plywood. And an article on brewing hippocras. Also an article on period Angling.

The recipe for knight's bread and the article on brewing hippocras were very interesting. I'm not much into Angling. :)

Includes book reviews of "The Arthurian Companion," "Guns, Germs, and Steel, The Fates of Human Societies," and "Brother Cadfeal's Herb Garden." An article explaining the illumination of the cover art. An article on making an Irish dress from the Elizabethan period. The last article is on adapting an 11/12th century Welsh "Breint Teilo" as an SCA Scroll Text.

The articles were a great deal more helpful than I remembered them.

Really good section on costuming. This book is a great starting point for reseach into how to make or do things medievally. Would not be good as a stand alone source.

Excellent resource for SCA combatants and non-combatants (lists, waterbearers, heralds, chirurgeons, marshals). There's probably a newer version out there on: http://www.sca.org but this one has been wonderfully used!

1992 edition (I think the current newest) Good information for the time and a GREAT beginner's resource, but badly needs updating for the current time. Things have sure changed in 15 years and research has advanced quite a bit in a great many of the areas covered. We've owned 4 copies and have given away 2 more! All but 1 of the four has been loaned away :) Excellent resource. If you can only afford 1 book in the SCA to help you get going. This is it. You can even find used copies on Amazon now.½

This is a great resource for EVERYONE who is just starting out in the SCA, and a great reference for long-time members. It gives great advice and guidelines, and I found it especially useful in building a canton from the ground up. It fills in those blanks of information that many people who have been in a long time assume is common knowledge. It also helps out a lot when you find yourself faced with a daunting task, such as cooking your first feast, etc.
