Buried Beneath the Words is conversationally written, which makes it enjoyable to read. It offered me a new perspective on how powerful God's words are. He spoke and our world was created. The words we hear from family and friends have a tremendous impact on our lives as well, either for positive or negative.

A couple points which impressed me: "Life is a journey. We are changed little by little." And Betel tells us one reason she wrote this book: "This little book describes what I have uncovered about the power of words and how they can shape our beliefs, and where to look for help when the weight of all those words becomes to heavy."

Words truly are powerful, and they truly do impact the way we think about ourselves. But God's Word is more powerful, and His power can overcome the negative influence with which satan tries to overshadow us. "Bottom line: God made us. We are the wondrous work of His hands. We should not be rejecting His wonderful masterpiece. We should be loving and accepting of ourselves. If it feels like you're struggling with something and could use some wisdom all you have to do is ask God. He will give it you without reproach. You don't have to be Miss-Goody-Two-Shoes to receive it. If we ask, He will give it to us."

If you struggle with the negative impact words have had on your life, this will be a helpful resource. Also included in the book are study questions, which can be used on your own, or as a group study.

UPS: Buried Beneath the Words is a really great devotional that is good for women of all ages who are constantly spoken negatively over. Betel uses Scripture to back up everything she says, as well as some personal stories. The book is small so you can zip right through reading it (and the cover is so “yummy”!!! Only Bookies will know the meaning of that statement…..). I did enjoy reading this book, and love Betel’s heart behind the book.

DOWNS: The only thing that was considered a “down” is that I personally could not relate to a whole lot of what Betel said, simply because I am blessed to have uplifting words spoken over me daily, but this book did help me be conscious to what I speak over other people.

OVERALL: This is a great book that I am highly recommending to those who have lies spoken over them! 5 out of 5 stars!

“I received this book from the author/publisher via Litfuse for the purpose of this review. All comments and opinions are my own.”

Buried Beneath The Words was a very interesting read this past week. We don't always realize how powerful words are, or how we've come to accept the words other people have used to describe us. Think about that for a second, how would people in your life describe you? Accusing, blaming, and degrading words are the worst! After hearing negative opinions over and over again, we begin to feel the weight of them threatening to crush the very personality. Buried Beneath the Words cleverly shares a true life story about the different ways someone can end up buried beneath the weight of negative words. Then it shares a Christian course for how God's word can revive us. How should you speak onto others? How should you feel about others? Do you let others weight you down or give the negative to God. This is a theological genre book and could be interesting to a student or scholar.… (mehr)
