This is part history book, part travel guide. Certain chapters cover events in Anglo-Saxon history, while others describe buildings of historical interest, which people can visit. Of course, with this being first published in 1927, circumstances may have changed in certain cases.
The “travel guide” chapters bored me a little, except those that feature anecdotes about something significant that happened there.
So, not a bad read, but not a compelling one, either.
