- Dora Aydelotte was born in central Illinois and spent most of her later life in Oklahoma. She went to art school in Richmond, Virginia in 1900 before choosing a writing career. Her work appeared in the Forum, published by the Dodd Mead Company, and portions of it were broadcast by radio station WCFL in Chicago. She was an honorary member of the National League of American Pen Women, and conducted writing classes in Oklahoma City. Much of her material was inspired by the pioneers in Moweaqua, Illinois, and Oklahoma. She wrote historical novels in the 1930s and 1940s, for which she won some awards, and was often compared to Willa Cather.
