I received this book from Members Giveaway. Eighteen Months to Live is the journal of a woman living with cancer. The title is the amount of time that she was told that she would live by her doctor, though it was incorrect and she lived longer. A part of this book criticizes the medical establishment, and the doctors who cared for her, for their inaccurate information, their unwillingness to be direct and informative. One of my favorite parts of the book is when the protagonists asks her doctor 13 direct questions after 18 months of evasiveness. She then transcribes the answers. She is also clear with her doctor that being given an en-point to her life (18 months) has been depressing and harmful to her. Overall, however this journal is tedious to read. I wish there had been some backdrop or way to understand some of the family dynamics she mentions throughout her journal. Instead it was fairly repetitive.… (mehr)

I received this book for free in exchange for writing an honest review.

Dr Rachele Baker DVM, shares her mother's journal. It was a hard book to read knowing what the ending would be. Midge wanted this book shared to help others who are facing the same situation. I admire the family's courage and generosity in sharing this book.

Like most books. I think that everyone will have a different take on it. This one I think the reader's place on their own life will make a big difference. A person with two living parents will have a different reaction than someone who has already lost both parents.

A very good book very touching and personal but a hard book to read

The journal entries and letters in this book provide a very telling tale of the trials that one goes through with a terminal diagnosis. I was struck by the honesty, the questions, and the positivity throughout the book. As difficult as some would find reading this, i believe this journal provides a good insight into anyone dealing with any life changing chronic situation, not just cancer, especially for family members but also for the individual. Members of the medical proffession also would gain significant insight into what a patient thinks, understands, and questions through this journal.… (mehr)

This book is a collection of journal entries and letters written by the author's mother after she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Midge's story takes you through all the emotions, thoughts, and mental stages of someone coming to terms with this struggle, but how she had maintained her wonderful and beautiful spirit through it all. It also illustrates the difficulty that many patients and their families have with the medical/insurance field in general. I recommend this book to anyone who knows someone touched by terminal cancer.… (mehr)
