This book tells about our sense of touch and how it works. The major structures of the skin are outlined. The different types of receptors are described and how they relate to stimulation and how signals are sent to the brain. There are several exercises in which sensitivity, pressure, temperature, and tickle sensations are examined. The explanations are straight-forward. This book also helps children understand pain related to illness such as the referred pain experience in a heart attack.

This book is appropriate for the grades second through fourth. The book is informational and has fun activities for children. The book explains movement by talking about bones, muscles and joints. Children can read about how to grow strong and have healthy bones. There is a skeleton in the book with labels on what each part is. Important vocabulary words are in bold and defined in the glossary.
Uses in classroom:
- Teach children how to use the table of contents and glossary.
- There is an activity in the book to make model muscles.
- Teach children how to take care of muscles. As a class we can make a chart.

This book is colorful, the text is not overwhelming (as is some textbook text), and the explanations are simple yet informative. The main drawback is the suggested resources list, which only has 3 books. I would recommend this book to middle school students studying Physical Science (CA) as well as Physical Science teachers looking for a book written at a lower level than the textbook.
