The NZH (North-South Holland) tramway system was Europe's classical interurban which grew out of eleven separate companies, somme electric and some steam, but all with a strange fascination. Those readers who are too young to have seen the NZH in tramway days have no idea what they missed - a remarquable mixture of gauges and rolling stock, MU operation, heavy motor cars with huge equipment, compartments and control trailers; you name it - The NZH had it, and it all had a character of its own, even retaining the flavour of the steam tram in its last days. The pictures in this booklet are superb and give a fine cross-section of the varied character of the NZH over the years. Don't worry if you cannot read Dutch; the book is well worth getting just for the collection of photographs. If you can read Dutch, then you gain the fascinating story of the NZH as well. (W.J. Wyse)
