Although the pop-ups are few and pretty simple, they are well executed in this black and white exploration of our most common superstitions. Everything from stepping on a crack, to breaking a mirror, to having a black cat cross your path will be found within the entirely black and white illustrations. My favorite pop-up is the spread with the number "12A" on the door; change it to "13" and spooky eyes appear in the mail slot below. This book is more geared to adults than children.

What is interesting about this book is, the art work feels like your looking at Edward Gorey. The color pallet of the book is black, white and shades of grey. The paper engineering is very simple. The book takes you on a tour through the house pointing out all the common objects that have become known as unlucky. The author gives a mini history lesson for each unlucky situation.
