I just finished reading this sad expose of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. The writers seem filled with bitter hatred. They've dug up every old bone they can find, nevermind that most of them have been explained.
They did not address the main doctrines of the church. I suppose that they realized that they'd have no ground to stand on.
I've been an SDA since 1972 and have read many Ellen G White books. They have led me closer to Christ.
I've also read many anti-SDA books, and not of them have ever tempted me to leave the faith.… (mehr)

Received this book today and skimmed it. It is better than I expected. Little of it is new, although it has brought together a few things that I had not seen before. It is intended for ex-Seventh-day Adventists (x-SDAs) or SDAs about to be x-SDAs, and it hopes to smooth the transition into mainstream Christianity. For those of us for whom the transition out of SDA church was largely guilt free, this book does not do too much. And even less for those of us who slipped right on by mainstream Christianity in secularism, it does even less. I have a little difficulty with the false alternative that either Adventism (or Ellen White) is of God or of the Devil. Too many odd sorts in all denominations for that either/or to hold up. Plus, although seeing through the silliness, I still hold Ellen White in some sort of distant respect (like a crazy, but interesting aunt).… (mehr)
