I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest, unbiased review. The Earl of Montfort falls in love with an actress. Of course, his mother is not as excited about the prospect of Clarissa joining the family as Matthew is. The plot is an exceptional one. I wanted the writer to give a firmer basis for the attraction. It is emphasized that there is an instant attraction but wasn't thoroughly explored, in my opinion. Having said that, the scenes are vivid and well-written. Sophie is the main breadwinner for her family as a reporter at a local newspaper. Her father travels for work and her mother does work that earns little to nothing. Her sister, Patience, suffers from after-effects from an illness whose medication is very costly. Sophie is faced with a decision that could further her career or end a long-awaited relationship. The story was very promising but failed in execution. Parts of the book were lengthy and contributed little to the overall nature of the plot. The parts that should have been thoroughly explored were barely discussed. I was disappointed in the telling of the story as well as the thinly expressed viewpoint of the main male character, Edward.
