This was actually an interesting book and one of the things I liked about it was the pulse racing story line with a wonderful cliffhanger being clean enough I could recommend it to middle school age kids though it comes under the YA genre. Librarians and teachers could easily have this on their reading lists or in their rooms without causing an uproar. The action scenes should appeal to a wide range of people along with the suspense and sci fi themes. The twists will keep you hooked through to the end and leave you wanting to check out the next book in the series.

Tenille Berezay writes well and keeps the pace moving as she develops her characters through this interesting and unique plot. Despite it being a sci fi novel she embedded enough realism in her characters they and their actions seemed plausible even the relationship between Desiree and Blake flowed with the story instead of taking you out of it. It did start off a bit slow but if you stick with it the payoff makes it worth it.

Thank you to Netgalley and Line by Line for allowing me to review this book.

I received this book from NetGalley and Line by Line in exchange for my honest opinion.

The author did a great job with this book. It has just the right amount of Sci Fi/Fantasy that almost anyone would enjoy it. Also, the plot of the story held it's own and felt original. The relationships in the story felt authentic and not hurried like they do in most young adult books.

Almost every chapter ended in a cliff hanger that pulled you through and made me want to keep reading. It was a quick read for that reason but it did not lack in details. You are given a clear view of what everything looks like and how the character is feeling but it never bogged down the story.

Unlike most young adult books, the parents of the main characters are actually good parents. Desiree is not portrayed as being perfect. She has flaws and weaknesses mixed in with her strengths which made her realistic and likeable. The relationship that blossoms for Desiree is not insta-love and is built on trust and respect.

I would definitely recommend this book for anyone that likes young adult books.

Desiree Morgan carries a great secret. She hides secret abilities like she can run extremely fast, fight like no other and be amazingly strong. In the first half of this book she struggles with questions about herself. Is she a freak? Where do her abilities come from? She meets this special boy, Blake Thomas, and more questions arise. He also hides secrets...are they both of the same kind?

I kind of struggled through this book, the whole first part is very predictable. The pace was slow and it bothered me that the main characters didn´t talk to each other about obvious things.

The last part of the book is more exciting and both the drama and the pace increases significantly. Even if this book could have been the end of the story, there is supposed to be a sequel. But I don´t feel an immediate need to read part two…

First I must say I was given this ebook in exchange for an honest review through Ebooks For Review.
We start with Desiree, a brilliantly created character, who simply wants to be a normal teenage girl. She's hiding a deep secret from everyone she knows, extreme strength and speed-just to name two. She has no clue where it comes from and is the only one she knows with these powers.
Then comes Blake, the new kid, who is the only person who has ever noticed that Desiree is special. He talks Desiree into giving him riding lessons to get to know her better.
As the two get closer, she is tempted to tell Blake her secret and is questioning if he too possesses these powers.
Then she receives extremely shocking news and dedicates herself to finding out the truth about her powers. When she tells Blake, he confesses who he truly is-sort of-and warns her to stay away from it all. He says she must continue keeping her secret and for her sake he disappears from her life.
So the hunt begins. She feels she has no one. Between exposed family secrets and Blake leaving, she just wants to know where she belongs.
I'm hesitant to say more and there's so much more! This book is amazing and very comparable to Shatter Me by Mafi, which I also loved. The characters are perfectly constructed, the settings and action scenes are so visual. I was afraid I wouldn't enjoy it because of the similarities with the prior mentioned book but was just different enough that I devoured it. Plus it's clean! That's so refreshing! Please read this!
