Joseph Berkowitz

Joseph Berkowitz was one of the pioneers in photoionization mass spectrometry in the 1960s. During this period, as a Guggenheim Fellow, he also became involved with photoelectrons and their angular distributions. As some general principles became evident, he systematized the fields of mehr anzeigen photoabsorption, photoionization and photoelectron spectroscopy in a pedagogic and data-based text (Academic Press, 1979). In subsequent years, he focussed on the photoionization of transient species, such as open-shell atoms and molecular free radicals. Meanwhile, synchrotron radiation sources evolved through second and third generations into powerful sources of vacuum ultraviolet and x-rays. In this volume he utilizes some of the advances forthcoming in two decades of research to elaborate and extend the early data and analysis. weniger anzeigen
