History of the Carthusian Monastery of Pavia starting in the before its founding by Gian Galeazzo Visconti, Duke of Milan. Who founded the Charterhouse in 1396, though he announced this decision in the year of Our Lord 1394. Work continued on the monastery through the late 1700's, which makes this a living history of art and architecture of five centuries. Joseph II forced the Carthusians out of the monastery in 1782.
