- Tom Bevan (1868-1938) was a prolific and popular British children's author of the early twentieth century. Born in Monmouthshire in 1868, he was educated at Sir Thomas Rich's School in Gloucester and St Paul's College, Cheltenham. He began writing while working as a schoolmaster, and specialized in historical adventure stories for boys, publishing under his own name, and under the pseudonym Walter Bamfylde. In the 1920s he was education editor for Sampson Low and Marston, although he himself was often published by The Religious Tract Society. Bevan's daughter was the girls' school story author, Marjorie Bevan. He died in 1938.
