This delightful little book is peopled by extracts from some really great authors like Dickens, Walter Scott, Charles Kingsley, Joseph Conrad, W. G. H. Kingston, Edgar Allan Poe and G. K. Chesterton. There' more than that too. The stories are presented in sections like Tales of School and University, Alarums and Excursions, The Clash of Creeds and passages from books dealing with shipwrecks, African hunts, whaling, horse rides and prize fights. At the end of the book there is a list books containing suggested adventure reading. It is a good list which points to many of my father's and my boyhood favourites.… (mehr)
