This is a remarkable book, essentially a profuse set of erotic drawings, set into a quasi-fictional context by an introduction to the artist and two highly evocative short texts, by Christopher Hart and Lilian Pizzichini. Böttger’s style is at once highly perfect and artistically marred by the use of damaged paper and deliberate staining. The theme that emerges from this sometimes apparently random confluence of art and style – Eros & Thanatos - is that of sex and death, along with their convolution in the human mystery. Böttger’s women are solid and delightfully rounded, his men, seen more partially, are well-endowed and tumescent. Their personal interactions are intimate, often probing. The book is a delightfully thoughtful work for occasional browsing, reaching deeply into human nature and the intimate expression of deeply seated urges.… (mehr)
