A study of those groups and movements in England that were opposed to WW1. They were a strange mixture: Quakers, Non-Conformists, early Socialists motivated by political or religious beliefs. They were natural targets for the most bitter enmity of the State and the ordinary patriotic citizen. Jeered at, assaulted, viciously attacked, some of these groups nonetheless chose the awkward way out: they would not serve. Amongst the purely awkward and the cranks was a group of straight-minded men who resisted the hysteria brought out by war. Of these, Clifford Allen was the most conspicuous: a man not only of vision and humanity, but of considerable moral toughness as well. Alongside him were figures like Bertrand Russell, Ramsey Macdonald, Herbert Morrison and others. This story of men who opted out of armed combat shows that many of them behaved as heroically in opposition as the heroes themselves.… (mehr)

Quakers tell how they combine committed membership of the Religious Society of Friends with the rejection of traditional belief in a transcendent, personal and supernatural God. For some of these 'nontheist' Friends, God is no more (but no less) than a symbol of the wholly human values of 'mercy, pity, peace, and love'. For others, the idea of God and 'God-language' has become an archaism and a stumbling-block. Readers who seek a faith or world-view free of supernaturalism, whether they are Friends, members of other traditions or drop-outs from old-time religion, will find themselves in the company of a varied group whose search for an authentic 21st century understanding of religion and spirituality has led them to declare themselves 'Godless - for God's Sake'.… (mehr)

Who on Earth was Jesus ?/
The Modern Quest For the Jesus of History
by David Boulton

This 419 page book was nothing short of astounding and went a long way to help me get a bigger and much deeper picture of Jesus the man, from many different sources. This exciting offering is one that was so jam packed with info that I found I could only read a little and then ponder a lot, and then read some more. Even though there was an immense amount of material the format was so concise and well planned I didn't get lost at all. I also found the "Jesus Seminar" fascinating.

I just loved how there was so much available, it was kind of like a huge 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle that was so masterfully assembled that it told a story that got me to thinking about who our Savior really was, and what kind of life He did lead, and how many lives He touched and still inspires today. I would recommend this exceptional labor of love to anyone with questions concerning the "Messiah" and who are open minded enough to process some amazing answers. Thank you so much David for putting things into a clearer perspective..

Love & Light,

Riki Frahmann
