Boyden, L. (2007). Powwow’s Coming. Albuquerque: University of New Mexico Press.
This book is most appropriate for preschoolers. This book tells about the traditions and activities that take place when Native Americans have a Powwow. From dancing to drumming, there are a lot of activities that take place at a Powwow. The book also outlines what Native Americans wear during these celebrations, what they eat, and what kind of art they make. The book also gives a history of Powwows as well as games that students can play at home if they wanted to do their own Powwow.

Summary: This book is about a little girl growing a garden with her grandpa. She wants blue roses but he tells her there are none. When he dies, the family is very sad until they see blue roses at his grave.
Opinion: This book is really sweet. I like the positive views surrounding death that are held by many Native American people. The book is great for a grieving kid or just somebody who wants to learn more about the culture.

I enjoyed the look into Native American culture that this book provided. The large print and bright colors makes it easy for children to read.

Large print and few words in this book make it easy for younger children to read. I like the notes to readers in the back of the definition of a Powwow, how to behave at a powwow, and traditional game directions.

This is a heartwarming, but sad tale about a young girl and her grandfather. Together they plant seeds that grow into flowers and vegetables. After her grandfather dies, Rosalie sees blue roses in her dreams. I would recommend this book the children ages 7 and up.

The book used the blue roses planting, and the way of planting from papa to the girl showed that the love from family, from papa would company with the little girl, even thought papa was pasted away.

The book explained the Powwow's dancing. What people feel, see, hear, and do during it. Each page has one to two sentences in it that express the feeling toward Powwow dancing.I found this book appropriate for any grade in elementary. The book can be used to open student's eyes on different cultures and traditions.

I love the language of this book. 'Yellow squash and orange pumpkins huddled in mounds like sister sharing secrets.' 'Our house stretched like a huge rubber band around relatives and neighbors.'

The illustrations are rather simplistic.
