Tom Braden was born in Greene, Iowa on February 22, 1917. During the Great Depression, he moved to New York and worked for a printer. He eventually graduated from Dartmouth College. During World War II, he served with the British and United States armies. In 1950, he joined the C.I.A. and was mehr anzeigen involved in an agency operation to counter Communist influence in Europe through arts programs. In 1954, he bought a newspaper, The Blade-Tribune, in Oceanside, California, which he ran for more than a decade and wrote newspaper columns about his family. The newspaper columns were later culminated in the book, Eight Is Enough (1975), which inspired the ABC television series by the same name. In 1982, he created the CNN program Crossfire with Patrick Buchanan. He left the program in 1991 and it was canceled in 2005. He died of natural causes on April 3, 2009 at the age of 92.
