Rezensionen

Families are hard. Families are love. But the joy sparked from that dichotomy is truly special.

In "When I Was Seven," Mary Ellen Bramwell delivers a touching and tender exploration of the unbreakable bond between a young boy and his grandmother. Lucas cherishes the arrival of his grandmother, finding in her not just family but also a dear friend. Yet, as her memories resurface, he becomes her devoted confidant in a world that often dismisses her. In fulfilling his grandmother's final wish, Lucas's innocence and unwavering love mend more than one broken fence.

"It's okay, Lucas. I see her..." This had me in tears. Happy tears.

I received an ecopy of this book from LibraryThing in exchange for a review.

If I were to take a word from the book that to me sums up the whole story, it would be ‘Becoming’. This whole delightful story is about becoming more, becoming aware, becoming free to let go and experience life.
Wonderfully told, this tale is both insightful and thought-provoking. I would definitely recommend it.

This story focuses on the mother/child relationship: Noah, 12, has not made his peace with the actions of his father (dead when Noah was a baby). Brea, his mother, remembering how his father lived, fears his silences. Following suggestions left by their dead neighbour, they will both learn from the far past how to accept their husband/father's actions and to live together.… (mehr)
