The Laird's Reckoning by Jennifer Bray-Weber is a beautifully written Pirate Romance set in 1730. "Romancing the Pirate" #6, but can be read as a stand alone.
A quick read, with a cast of characters that will take your breath away. They are believable, engaging and strong characters. I was glued to the pages from the first sentence to the last. I connected with these colorful characters. Just couldn't stop turning pages. The plot is filled with heart-pounding action, adventure, danger and romance. There are a some humorous moments to me, mixed in with the excitement of pirate fighting, passionate kisses, betrayal and a masterfully written love story.
"The Laird's Reckoning" in humble opinion is a must read. Great for an afternoon read at the beach, where you can hear the ocean and feel the breeze, and image pirates attacking your peaceful world, or, you could read it anywhere.

Jennifer Bray-Weber is a masterful storyteller who writes brilliantly and passionately. She knows how to bring her point across to her readers, without leaving out any of the story. She does not disappoint her readers.
I highly recommend this quick read.

I was able to snag this book from Netgalley shortly after finishing book two in Romancing the Pirate series. I again enjoyed this historical romance setting of pirates. This author is amazing with weaving the females into such a known male area and time period. Gilly (Gillian) was such a great character who didn’t really understand or know all the trouble she was in. She was a strong female. Thayer, the ship's captain, was also strong, who tried to be really tough with Gilly, but did find he had a soft side with her.

This read had great pace and I kept turning the pages. There is plenty of action on the sea as well as off the waters, in the town of Havana. There were a little politics involved, but nothing too heavy. Fairly quick read. The descriptions of the towns and seas are great. I can just imagine the darkness during the storms on the seas. Sometimes I felt like I needed to turn the light on brighter.

I enjoyed the part of the book when it was describing the heists, the reason for them and why they were happening. There are a lot of underlying stories going on along with the main story. These side stories are what hooked me into liking both the hero and the heroine.

Gilly McCoy was broke and was stowing away on a ship that is now sinking. She bribed a sailor for passage and he locked her up in the dark. Luckly she got up to the deck before she got stuck.
Captain Thayer Drake and his men saw her and rescued her. Thayer and his pirates were mad at the Captain Mott for not helping her in one of the life boats.
Both boats crew were mad at Abel for sneaking her on the ship and leaving her locked up on sinking ship and lying to his captain. Abel got caned.
Someone was chasing Gilly and killed her lover, manager. She has no idea why. Gilly tells Captain Drake it was a groom she was running from.
Gilly pays for her passage by singing for Drake and kissing him when his bell was wrong.
Its a pirate chase and lots of people get rescued and then caught. Thier are a few love scenes but plenty of plot and characters in this pirate adventure.
You see a few minor characters back from the A Kiss in the wind. If you enjoy pirates you will like this book. Its the second book of the series that I have now read and look forward to reading more of Jennifer's work in the future.
I was given this ebook to read in exchange of honest review from Netgalley.
