My hard copy finally arrived via ‘snail’ mail and I quite appreciated the simplicity yet attractiveness of the cover. It certainly matched the book’s theme. And, once I had the time to begin reading Soul Reader, I definitely appreciated that it was well-written. (Dianne had previously assured me that she had used several editors – a fact that was now very apparent).
Moving on to the story, Jennifer Mills is a writer who lives in San Diego with her husband, their three children and one very lovable dog named, Nugget. When she’s not bustling about, taking children here, there, and everywhere, she can either be found surfing at one of the local beaches or at Starbucks – writing while spending time with her best friend, Kristin.
When readers begin their literary journey through Soul Reader they will discover themselves in one of Jennifer’s dreams. It’s an odd dream too – one filled with flying red-eyed monsters and unusual looking celestial creatures. In this dream, Jennifer is known by a different name and even has her own pair of brightly colored wings. Of course she eventually wakes up, and her life continues as normal – or does it? Quite often she finds odd white feathers in her daughter’s room, she continually sees enormous butterflies that do not belong to this world and then there’s this mysterious paraplegic man she’s inexplicably drawn to even though she’s happily married.
In the days following this dream, Jennifer’s mind is slowly freed – allowing her to acknowledge an additional reality that most people are unaware of. Without providing anything further – Soul Reader was an engaging and fun read; a well-written and interesting first book of a new trilogy.
Anyone who enjoys YA Fiction, Fantasy and/or Christian genres should enjoy this tale. And, congratulations to Bright for an entrancing debut novel.… (mehr)
