Before going into each modern faith, there are pages on "What is Faith", "Traditional beliefs", and Religions around the world". Several pages on Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Then a page each on Zoroastrianism, Shinto, Taoism, Jainism, Bahai. Includes a glossary.

This book introduces castles all around the world and from different eras. It would be an amazing book to do a unit on, as it shares many facts about different time periods and different cultures. The colorful illustrations are highly captivating and engaging. This would be a great book to introduce students to a new unit in social studies or history and would be fitting for those in early elementary school. This book is over 70 pages (total 144 pages).

I liked this book for a few reasons. First, I found that for a K-2 reading level informational text, it actually gave important information. The text goes through the birth of a baby giant panda while also includes information on habitats, how zoos are run, and Chinese culture throughout the birth story. Secondly, the text is engaging and organized. It tells a story while includes tables/figures that add to the information of the story. The big idea of the story is to tell the story of how zookeepers take care of the animals during pregnancy.

Are llamas the new sloth? I hope so. Personally, I never got the appeal of sloths and I am realistic that not too many other people will ever recognize the sheer awesomeness that is hyenas. But llamas? They're furry! They have funny faces! Their ears are shaped like bananas! And now you can learn all about them!

A quick overview of llamas moves into their babies, crias, their habits, living in herds, and a few other facts. The second chapter talks about characteristics and history of llamas. They don't smell as bad as other animals, the stories about how they spit are exaggerated, and they are uniquely built to live in the mountains. A spread of facts on the llamas range in South America leads into the third chapter, about the llamas and their relationship with the Incas. The fourth chapter shows how they are used today as pack animals, providers of wool, and guardians of flocks. The final chapter and facts show their relationship to camels and other animals in the camelid family. The book ends with a quiz on llama facts, glossary, index, and a page on reading levels. The book is cheerfully illustrated with lots of cute, funny, and interesting photos of llamas.

With chapters and fairly complex text, even in a larger font, this is a pretty challenging beginning reader, one I'd probably hand to 2nd graders or very fluent 1st graders. However, with the growing number of kids in upper grades who struggle to read, I'm increasing my easy reader nonfiction selection and this will also appeal to those kids, since it doesn't look like a picture book and is about a fun topic.

Verdict: A good choice to fill out the upper level of your easy nonfiction. And, llamas!

I think this is a great book for someone interested int he human body. First, it not only talks about the different systems and parts of the body, but it goes in depth to give examples such as when someone in the circus is doing a balancing act, just how every part of the body interacts and relies on other parts. They also give great analogies and explain things in simple, easy to understand terms. The illustrations are also both specific and scientific, but include fun and comical pictures as well to keep it engaging. The big idea about this book is how the human body works.

This is a great book for students who are learning about Egypt. This book is great to allow children to read during silent sustained reading because it allows the student to make new discoveries about Egypt. This book is also great for children because of the language, and tone of the story. The author uses words like "dude" to keep the students engaged and enjoying the story and information presented.

We've now read a few of those Star Wars DK Readers, and this one is probably the easiest one, with very basic vocabulary, aside from some Star Wars lingo. It's actually not about Wookiees, contrary to what the title might suggest (the cover of this [b:edition|2100514|What Is a Wookiee?|Laura Buller|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1309296064s/2100514.jpg|863898] is a lot more representative of the contents of this book), although there is a page about Chewbacca. Instead, it features a few of the creatures encountered in the Star Wars series, such as wookies, Ewoks, droids, Gungans, Hutts, a Toydarian, a Dug, ...

Great early reader and quite a bit easier than some of the other level 1 readers in this Star Wars series.

I discovered a lovely book on various religions, but through the perspective of the youth in that culture. The detalied photographs and impresively extensive overview of the practices and holidays of that religion made the book a fairly decent reference piece and not just a kids book. The photos of the children from all over the world a part of all sorts of religions was an apreciated feature that brought a lot of assumed differences aside to show how alike we all are and at the same time wonderfully unique.

It is very important for students to be exposed to different cultures, including religions. Often children are only exposed to the religion of their family and maybe a close friend's family but it is important to be comfortable with others as well, it leads to more tolerance and a wider view of the world.

Provides a good overview from a child's angle of the major world religions. Some terms aren't sufficiently clear. Appropriate for grade 3 or 4 and up, though the images might be interesting to earlier primary children.

"Food" by Eyewitness Books is a great resource to have in the classroom for any time that students need to do further research on food or nutrition. The information is sophisticated and the text is dense, so this book would be best for older students. It takes a full and comprehensive look at every food group, and also looks at other sides of nutrition, such as organic foods and the practice of making healthy choices with food. One feature of this book that I particularly like is the section that talks about food and culture. It is important for kids to understand that food means different things to different cultures, and that different cultures tend to eat different kinds of foods. The information in this text is accurate and accessible to certain groups, and it presents the information in an entertaining way. This text also promotes a healthy lifestyle and makes healthy recommendations in order to do so.

C-3PO narrates and introduces us to some of the types of characters from the Star Wars films.

So, the title is particularly misleading. Given the cover and title, one might get the idea that this is a clever take on a learning-about-animals photo-book. But instead of covering the habitat, behavior, lifestyle, or eating habits of wookies, the book instead sloppily splashes factoids about various aliens and specific characters from the franchise. But, kids who Star Wars fans will enjoy recognizing the characters from their pictures, though they'll already know everything in the text if they've seen the movies. Minus ten for including Jar Jar Binks. Good for grades K-2.

Excellent book identifying what is faith and some traditional beliefs including a map of religions around the world. A good platform from which to introduce young children to a variety of beliefs and expose them to the commonalities and differences of cultures.

A fabulous resource for information on the major religions of the world. A non-biased take from the point of view of children and how they celebrate their religion.

This is a little almost throw-away book focused for kids perhaps 3-7. It has the look and feel of a quickly produced merchandised product of Star Wars, yet the publisher is the prestigious DK, so not sure what that's all about. The picture quality is really good, and each of the 30 or so pages has a crisp color large picture. The sentences are uniformly at an early learn to read level. So the book's solid. It does focus almost solely on Stars Wars volumes I-III, the LATER Star Wars recent movies, not the originals.
