I was contacted by the author to read this installment. The premise sounded okay to me. To be honest I seem to have missed the “zombies are cool” trend. I just don’t understand the appeal. I was a little worried that I would have a hard time with the novella since I’m not so fond of the undead. Turns out I was right. I can understand why some people would like it. R.G. writes in such a way that you cannot help but chuckle throughout the novella. I chuckled a few times but found myself to be a tad bored by the story. It’s simply not my cup of tea. However, don’t let this review dissuade you from picking it up.… (mehr)

This journal style of writing is just not for me.

I very much like the Freemium approach to authorship. It allows you to read a hearty sample of an author's work and to proceed with the rest if you're willing to pay.

For myself, I won't be sallying forth. Not because this is a bad book, but because I'm just not in the mood at the moment.

The CALDECOTT CHRONICLES is set in Victorian England. The main character is an Earl who finds himself in the middle of a zombie outbreak. And the format is a journal he is writing for his son... just in case.

The books approach to zombies is certainly different since it tinged with anachronisms of the past. And the 'journal' approach allows the author to not have to deal with nitty-gritty details. This latter makes the book a light, fluffy, and fun read if that's what you are in the mood for.

If you're looking for something to tug at your soul, you'll have to look elsewhere. I-myself found the story (as far as the extended excerpt went) was interesting, but lacking in character development. The Earl finds a village girl, Saffy, for example, and I would have liked to have known more about her. Or the Earl for that matter. But the journal format didn't allow for any introspection or detail.

Worth a read if you are tired of the usual Zombie Fair. CALDECOTT CHRONICLES is fun and well done for what it is.

This is a tale geared towards the teen market and as I started reading it I felt as if I was reading a bit of a Harry Potter knock off. We have a lonely, mistreated boy living in a foster home in a school that is mysterious. There is no magic in this school - that comes later. Our hero, Archy has one friend at school and he happens to be the son of a rich archaeologist. He invites Archy on a vacation that turns Archy's life upside down! There he buys a mysterious rug from a man in a hurry and Archy soon finds himself being chased by a some really deadly men.

The parallels to Harry Potter soon ended and the book came into its own; distinct characters and a distinct mythology. The writing is fast paced and the story is just plain good fun. Archy, with the support of his good friends learn why he was chosen and what he was chosen to do. He passes through several tests to meet the standards involved with being The 58th Keeper. I don't want to spoil any of the fun but know that the book held my interest and I'm sure it would most certainly hold the interest of the teens it is geared towards. It is part of a series and I would be most interested in seeing where it started and where it is going.
