Excellent Field Guide, Great new color photography, well-arranged

Excellent photos, and life history. However, I can't recommend it as the only bird identification book for ones library.

I have thumbed through my copy of this one until the pages (at least the color ones) are falling out. Overall, a great guide, but sometimes good drawings would actually make it easier to positively identify the bird in question than the photographs this book provides.½

It's not the best, but I don't know of a better one for the price. We keep 2 copies at home & use it fairly often. The pictures are pretty good & sometimes contain second pictures where season or sex changes the look of a bird - not always, though.

Good book for beginners who want to search for birds by color; Sibley's guide is much better for the intermediate or advanced birder

Excellent Reference.

These are great guides and anyone who is interested in nature should have the entire collection. I love being able to identify things I have seen or taken pictures of easily.

I have two of these - one in each vehicle.

This was the first field guide I ever used (my great-grandmother's favorite). I use it still, but more rarely now as others have supplanted it to some degree.½

Glanced thru this book and will use it for resource material.½
