It was tempting to give up on this story when things moved very quickly between the hero and the heroine suffering from amnesia, however the author successfully wove in subtle hints as if nudging the reader to read between the lines. I was made to believe the heroine truly felt safe when her body responded to Derek, as if subconsciously trying to tell her something she had no memory of.
I truly felt for Sara when she finally regained her memories. As for her relationship with Derek, I didn't think she was a doormat or that she forgave him too easily. She agreed to the arrangement and knew what she was getting in to. Besides, I liked the way Derek redeemed himself. For a man like him, his way of asking for forgiveness was indeed what one could call a grand gesture.
This story may have been short, but it was well written and felt like it was a part of a much longer story, so perhaps the author may be so inclined to build on this one day. The characters themselves were well rounded (enough) to satisfy my curiosity. Their history was explained satisfactorily, and it ended on a high note. The love scenes were HOT (Note: I'm labeling this as BDSM-lite for some domination, anal sex and toys). For a debut novella, this was a great start. I would definitely read more from this author.
