This book offers a brief, simple account of the settlement of the American West. It gives an overview of topics such as the Louisiana Purchase, Lewis and Clark, the pioneers and the trails they traveled, Native Americans in the American West, the Gold Rush, the Transcontinental Railroad and more. Beginning in the mid-1800s, countless Americans traveled west, hoping to start new lives. These brave pioneers left the comfort of their homes in search of new opportunities. They were thrilled to journey west. They had to build their own homes, make their own clothes, and grow their own food. For these early settlers of the west, each day was filled with many challenges.
By 1890, the days of discovery and settlement had ended. Much of the western frontier had been settled.
