Thank you @netgalley for this Arc

This book three in the cozy mystery series A Trending Topic Murder. The book is easily read independently from the first two.

Cordelia (Coco) Cline is an influencer and sometimes amatuer detective. A fellow influencer named La Tage’ is murdered. Coco lives in Central Shores and was suppose to meet up with La Tage’ to consult with about a brand make over. The police are working on the murder investigation but Coco and her friends decide to investigate the murder too. Coco has her friend’s Jasper, Charlotte and Hudson help her since the ‘#CocoClineistheProblem’ is trending and people online think she has something to do with the murder. There are many twist and turns for this mystery. Coco eventually prevails and discovers who the killer is. The police department does eventually admit that Coco has a talent for sleuthing. This books was fast paced and all the suspects were excellent. I enjoyed the relationship developing between Hudson and Coco and moving it to the next level. Plus there is a big surprise at the end.

The disappearance of a disagreeable professor places another of Hazel and Poppy’s good friends under suspicion of murder!

Too Much to Candle is a fabulous follow-up to author Sarah E. Burr’s You Can’t Candle the Truth, the debut novel in the Glenmyre Whim Mystery series. Readers are returned to the quaint and cozy town of Crucible, New York, and get to catch up with their favorite residents and meet some interesting new ones.
The core characters, Hazel, Poppy, Holden, Ezra, Constance, and Iggy, are a delightfully fun group of friends, people anyone would like to hang with. Hazel and Polly, once again, make for a very effective investigative team. I liked that the two women have come to an understanding with the cousin, Holden, the real detective, and seem to respect each other’s roles and abilities and collaborate on the case.

The book’s action starts early with the confrontation at the Cold Cauldron, and the victim goes missing soon after. Mayhan is a nasty piece of work, and readers will have no qualms about seeing him exit the story early on. Hazel and Poppy’s investigation reveals other possible suspects, all with good motives for wanting Mayhan out of the way, so the story has several plausible red herrings to keep readers guessing.

The concept of the Glenmyre’s whims (supernatural abilities) continues to intrigue me. However, Hazel’s gift of seeing a person’s “lifeclock” truly seems a curse. I can understand her feelings over not wanting to know the exact amount of time her loved ones have left on this plane, as she puts it.

With its comfortable and homey setting, engaging characters, unique paranormal elements, and intriguing mystery, I recommend TOO MUCH TO CANDLE to cozy mystery readers who enjoy a touch of the supernatural in their stories and those who would like the cozy and warm small-town New York setting during the Halloween season.

I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving an Advanced Review Copy from the author through Great Escapes Virtual Book Tours.

I have mixed feelings about this book as there were aspects that I loved and others that I had more of a lukewarm response to.
I liked that this is a modern and up to date twist on the traditional cozy mystery.
I've given it a solid four stars simply because I enjoyed but it was glaringly obvious from the clues given who the most likely culprits were so it didn't come as any surprise when it was all revealed. I also found the first chapter a bit of a slog to get through. I understand the whole concept of being a social media influencer so I didn't need a full chapter dedicated to explaining Coco's history in that respect.
But once I got past that the story became quite fast-paced and enjoyable. I liked the fact that she wasn't dating a police detective but I was surprised that she was so focused on why her boyfriend hadn't proposed yet. For a book set in today's real world, I felt that Coco could have been more modern in her personal life and more broad-minded. There was a lot of slut shaming going on in relation to the victim as well which I found old fashioned and eye rollingly unnecessary.
I loved the ending. It was suspenseful and humorous. Hudson really grew on me as the story unfolded as his regard for her certainly shone through despite Coco's insecurities.
I'm looking forward to reading the second book in the series.
I received a review copy and this is my unbiased opinion.
