Gruetzke, Mary. (2003). There Were Ten in the Bed. Illustrated by Susan Chapman Calitri. New York: Scholastic Inc.
This book tells the story of ten dogs in a bed and ll trying to fit into a bed to sleep. The little one keeps trying to fit in the bed and asks them all to roll over. Each time the little dog asks them to roll over, one falls off the bed. The story then continues to the next number. In the end the little puppy is left and finds a bone under the pillow.
Compared to the other book in this genre, Ten Wriggly, Wiggly Caterpillars, this book is a a very simple story that is repetitive which would be good for a young beginning reader because they can catch on quick and help tell the story. It is smaller in size than the other book and it is a paperback edition which might not last long with a young child since it can be ripped easily.
