One recurring problem faced by opponents of Male Genital Mutilation is the question of "Religious Freedom", which has been used on every occasion. As a family planning specialist with the World Health Organization told an activist: "Circumcision is in the Bible. Do you want us to get in trouble with the Jews?"
Yes, in fact. Lots of trouble! Unfortunately, as soon as the question of religious freedom enteres the equation, everyone pulls back, but why is it that no one ever asks or researches the question of how Male Genital Mutilation got in the Bible. Who knows? Though the Bible is considered by many as the Word of God, God didn't put it there. And neither did Abram.
The "original" Jewish covenant with their God is found in Genesis 15, and nowhere does that covenant mention Male Genital Mutilation. The only sacrifice made in the origianal covenant was the sacrifice not of infant foreskins, but of animal ... birds ... whatever was handy, but with the destruction of the Temple ... and exile of prominent Jews to Babylon ... Jewish Priests were unable to continue their long established covenant
What did they do? They made an old tribal tradition, apparently endemic in the Arabian Peninsula.... their new covenant ... sacrificing newborn infants to their need to re-establish authority over their people ... and in the absence of the monarchy ... who better to take charge than the Priesthood?
So ... busy Jewish Priests and scribes added Genesis 17 to the Biblical narrative ... and rewrote sections of the Bible to assert Male Genital Mutilation as a tradition going back to Abram, who they renamed "Abraham". Just try to find one person of the Jewish faith who knows the truth... of how Male Genital Mutilation was foisted on their people .... even to this day.
Charli Carpenter, the author of this book, didn't research the religious question. Like most everyone else ... she merely accepted the fiction that MGM is a religious rite, whereas it's nothing but an imposition on Jewish people by those who consider their political power more important than infant rights.
Male Genital Mutilation is merely a political act masquerading as a religious rite.… (mehr)
