- Michelle Clément-Mainard was born in the commune of Azay-le-Brûlé (some sources say Saint-Maixent-l'École) in the Deux-Sèvres départment of west central France.
After professional training, she became a teacher in the Vendée. When she retired, she moved to Azay-le-Brûlé to live in her grandparents' country house. At that time, she began to research and write historical novels. Her debut book La Fourche à loup (1985), which tells the romanticized story of one of her ancestors, won the Prix de la Corne d'Or limousine. She published a total of seven novels and won several further awards, including the Prix Animal et Nature (Animal and Nature Prize) des Caisses d'Épargne Écureuil and the Prix Eugène Le Roy from the Ministry of Agriculture in 1987 for La Foire aux mules.
She was married to artist and painter Michel Clément, with whom she had children.

(mehr)
