The primary focus of this book is financial planning and it gives a pretty good explanation of what the author calls Rational Investing. The ultimate goal is to prepare for an early semi-retirement, when one might work part-time or freelance while cultivating aspects of life outside a traditional workplace. There is a separate workbook designed to guide the reader through calculations, which I did not have. This book was written in 2007, so keep that in mind as you read it. Even so, I think this presentation has something to offer those who are contemplating pulling back from a full-time career sooner rather than later. Clyatt rounds out the book with introductory chapters on why someone might want to cease working full-time and concluding chapters on how to think about the rest of life and finding one's balance both psychologically and financially after steeping off the treadmill.
