this was pretty well written but for some reason i wasn't too into it. i mean, i didn't dislike it but i never found myself caring about the mystery or the connection to the main character's past or to the history of the national parks.
the tension felt manufactured throughout. both the tension between the team members who were supposed to be working together, and the sexual tension. the relationship between madison and her boss in california rang true, but that's really the only one. the others weren't far off or anything, but they just weren't quite authentic, and i think that kept me from really being interested in the book. that and there were a handful of plot holes that made the mystery part hard to read and care about.
this really wasn't that bad, but i wanted more from it. i'd read her again, though....i guess the more i think about this book the more i realize that while the writing is good, i didn't really like it. it'll still get 2 stars because the writing is good and shows good promise, but in the end there were too many problems with it.
"Mobley wore some of her baggage on her sleeve, but, Madison thought, Greaves carried a full backpack himself."
"Greaves was right about one thing, the people in power can rewrite history."… (mehr)
