A gripping tale, sure, albeit slightly predictable. One thing I particularly loved about this
book was the portrayal of honest feelings of the protagonist. Be it a feeling of misplaced
anger that her lover is dead whilst her innocent husband lives or the lack of distrust when
suspicious gaze turns towards her husband. She tends to wear her heart on the sleeve. It
was a nice characterization of the fickle human emotions. The motive behind the murder
was succinctly explained, leaving no doubt in the reader’s mind. After all, hell hath no fury
like a woman scorned. But the base is age old, making the story slightly predictable. While
reading, I had two theories in mind, either it was the husband and the best friend, or the
husband and the assistant. Both felt quite plausible but towards the end I started leaning
towards the former theory, however, I did not expect the woman to be the judge and
executioner alone. This, I believe, was an exemplary climax to this riveting tale. However,
one question remains, with both the victim and the puppeteer being present on the scene,
who clicked the picture on the bridge.
Although the ending felt a little rushed, I believe, this story has potential to have an
amazing sequel, because ultimately, the killer destroyed the lives of three different women
in her quest to get the man she thought she deserved. These women can still turn the tables
and emerge victorious. Greater the fall, grander the ascension.

This book was very slow in the beginning but picked up speed about halfway through. However, I couldn't get past some of the plot twists. They just seemed too implausible. Imogen/Amy, a teenager, was just too ready to love and trust a man she never met before, who drugs and keeps her captive for days in a retched shack in the middle of nowhere, even if he claims to be her brother. And her evil sister, Jemima, is unrealistically cunning and smart for a twelve-year-old. The rest of the story was creepy yet intriguing.

Well, "The Guilty Wife" certainly kept me on my toes! It was filled with suspense and I found myself desperately trying to solve the crime along with Bethany, the accused killer. Although I didn't like her that much, I knew she wasn't the murderer so I was keen for her to find out who did kill Calum.

Yes, there were holes in the plot, undeveloped secondary characters and some contrivances, but "The Guilty Wife" had me from the first page with its short chapters, nail-biting suspense, twists and turns and addictive storyline. An entertaining read.½

The Guity wife is a fast read; it took me a little bit time to enter the plot because I felt it a little bit slow.
It is an ok psychological thriller it has its turns and twists, the ending for me was a little bit awkward but an ok one. For a debut book, it gets 3.25 stars from me.
Some characters are likable, and others that are not so much. There are parts that the main character, Bethany, is doing crazy things that serve the plot of the story, but it is not so logical as well.
As I said in my only update that if you don't like reading books about adultery, I wouldn't suggest this book for you. This book was one of the two books I picked when I was browsing the shelves of the public library of my city. The English part of the library is an ok one. When there is a book that I think is an interesting one I pick it up and read a couple of pages from the first chapter.
The cover and the title got my attention, and I didn't want to read the summary or the blurps. Crime-thrillers, psychological thrillers, and the mystery genre is one that I like to go blind.
Elle Croft's writing is interesting, and I think if I find another book by her in my public library, I will pick it up.

Gina Mills really wants to be a newsreader but her boss won't help her progress. One night walking home she stumbles across a dead body. Her instinct tell her this is the opportunity to become a newsreader so she starts to report the crime live.

This book for me started so good. The story follows Gina and her brother Ryan. The story is told in chapters dedicated to each character in turn. Flashbacks to Gina and Ryan's childhood also contribute to the story.

When the story unfolds and it becomes apparent how things happened and how they were made to happen is where I began losing interest. The subject matter that is the 'how' is how really believable is it and can it really happen. I don't know much about it myself so can't really comment or judge, just found it a bit far fetched for my liking.

This book started out really good, I was interested and enjoying the book then for me it just went a complete unexpected way.

Elle Croft has certainly come up with an amazing original idea for a novel: when Bethany's lover is murdered, she can't grieve or reveal her whereabouts on the night he was killed because then her husband would know she was having an affair. It's proper nail-biting stuff as Bethany spins a web of lies that see her digging deeper and deeper into a hole that she won't be able to get out of.

I was already hooked at the start but then Elle Croft took it up a notch to ensure that my eyes would remain glued to each page. Somebody knows about Bethany's affair with her client, billionaire Calum Bradley, and they manage to spook Bethany by getting into her house undetected and leaving threatening notes. As evidence starts to appear that makes Bethany appear guilty of murder, she is warned by her stalker to say nothing to the police. Bethany has nobody to turn to but her friend, Alex, who is a lawyer. I breathed a sigh of relief, sure that Alex would sort it all out. Then Bethany is arrested...and the truth comes out at last.

What a superb debut from Elle Croft. The Guilty Wife was glued to my hand until I finished this nail-biting, twisty and suspenseful psychological thriller. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for Elle Croft's next book.

I chose to read an ARC and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.

Classico giallo estivo, da leggere per svagarsi; trama piuttosto improvvisata e spesso improbabile.
Colpo di scena finale piazzato per chiudere il manoscrittto e passare alla stampa..... c'è di meglio.

I love a nice twisty psychological thriller and that's exactly what The Other Sister is. Gina Mills had a sister but she died many years ago and that loss has always been there in the background for her and her brother Ryan. Gina is trying now to forge herself a career as a newsreader at Channel Eight but her boss doesn't want to know. When she comes across a body one night on her way home and decides to live broadcast it on the internet, it brings her a certain notoriety.

The second body she stumbles across turns a tragic discovery into a rather shocking coincidence. It seems unbelievable that it could have happened to her twice but that is indeed the case. Could it be possible that she was meant to find both bodies?

Well, to find that out you'll have to read the book but, let me tell you, I could never have imagined the turn that this book would take. As it progressed I started to get an inkling, but Elle Croft has written the story in such a way that it's impossible to second guess anything that's happening. You just have to go with the flow and see where the story takes you which is no bad thing at all.

It's a very original storyline, slightly incredible as is the way with many psychological thrillers, but yet also completely possible. I loved the way the story jumped around between various points of view, that of Gina, Ryan, their mother back in 1996, and the detective investigating the two women's deaths. It enabled me to see the story from different angles. I still didn't know where it was going though!

I found The Other Sister to be a gripping and thrilling read. I liked the characterisations, particularly Gina and her boyfriend, Julian, and the story was so clever, particularly the ending which blew my mind a little bit. All in all, a great read, one that kept me guessing from start to finish and one which I thought was unusual and skilfully plotted.

The blurb is certainly right when it says there is a twist in the end that most readers will never see coming. After her lover is murdered someone is certainly determined to prove Bethany is guilty - but, you constantly ask yourself, who would hate her that much? They leave notes, hack into her FaceBook account, publish incriminating pictures.

The tension builds very effectively. The police are blindsided by the so-called evidence, and in the long run Bethany is really a very poor judge of character.
