Set in 1923, this historical work of fiction examines the lives of Blossom Evans and her family. Selling everything they owned, the clan loads up in covered wagons pulled by horses to move to Texas. Along the way, they arrive in the town of Winters. With her mother, grandparents, and other relatives, the clan spends Christmas Eve here. However, the family gets more than they bargained for initially.

As a reporter, Blossom attempts to chronicle their journey. But the family encounters a terrifying brand of evil that requires their help. Fortunately, good people also appear on the scene and help the family work to combat the evil that presents itself. With rich characters and a plot that draws you in, I definitely recommend this book. The ending makes reading the book worthwhile.

So check out this book for yourself.

This is not an easy story to read as it deals with the a subject that still exists today. I appreciate how the author exposed such a group that only has evil in their hearts. The trip that the McFarland’s take by wagon is hard as winter settles in. They find themselves in a town called Winter, Texas. The story focuses on Blossom and her desire to be a newspaper reporter. She is shy and needs a little encouragement at times. I liked how she saw people who needed help and not what the color of their skin was.

It is hard to imagine that during this time period prejudice was going on. The part where Blossom witnesses a crime in action, I was happy to see how she stood up to the men who wanted to harm a couple who were kind and hardworking. We see how Blossom finds courage and helps the family out. There was a part in the story that was hard to read but the author does a good job of describing it in a way that shows how evil men can be when they are part of the white supremacy movement. Blossom finds boldness as she asked God to help her. The story is short but shows us how important family is and standing up for what is right.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

Doing what’s right in spite of fear is noble and brave. It’s courage.

The family is on its way from central OK to the Fort Worth, TX area. Slow going with a number of covered wagons, Christmas Eve 1923 finds them in Winters, TX. Slavery is in the past, but white supremacism is still alive in many areas. Will Blossom and her friends manage to save the family that these vigilantes are hoping to scare away or even kill?

The author has done a wonderful job of showing what a difference we can make, if we will just grid ourselves with courage and step out in faith. Will justice be served in this situation? Read on to find out.

This ARC was received through BookFunnel. The impressions and comments are my own and were in no way solicited.

A Sojourner Christmas by Linda Brooks Davis is a short story that follows Blossom and her family as the arrive in Winters, Texas on Christmas Eve 1923. We see the generosity of others that help them celebrate the holiday. With limited space at the hotel, we see the family caring for each other. Blossom is a newspaper reporter who is trying to make it big and ends up following a group of dangerous people.

This is a nice short story that can be read in a short evening. I enjoyed the theme of caring for and helping others that ran through out this story. I also enjoyed the mystery and suspense of Blossom while she goes to help a threatened family.

I received a complimentary copy of this story through CelebrateLit, this is my honest review.
