I really enjoyed The Judas Tree. It is well written. This will not be for everyone because it does jump around. It is told in the POV of roughly three to four different people that are located in different countries. I was okay with the jumping around because it kept me wanting to know more about each group.

This book has an interesting concept. But, sadly, it was difficult for me to read. There were A LOT of characters, so sometimes that was taxing to keep track of. And there was something about the writing style that was difficult for me to get into; too formal, or narrative, or big paragraphs, or something I can't quite put my finger on. I'd say, if the concept interests you, give it a try and see how it goes for you.

A woman dreaming of ruling the world releases an inhaled virus which kills 85% of the world's population. Among the people who remain are the Pope, the Archbishop of Canterbury (who is in Ireland), and a Jewish woman visiting Jerusalem.

In spite of a promising premise, this book ultimately disappoints. There are actually four storylines, and at times it can seem disjointed. It can also be difficult to keep all of the characters straight while repetition of various elements and some awkward phrasing slow down the plot. Spoiler Alert: Nothing is resolved at the end of this novel. Just as the reader thinks the book is nearing a climax, it abruptly ends; they will have to wait for future books in the series for the battle between good and evil to play out. Finally, it will be of most interest to those familiar with Catholicism.… (mehr)

Wow! Book 1 of The Judas Tree has characters that I love and can relate to... the plot, taking place in 2075 is plausible. The battle of Good vs. Evil has ravaged humankind since Cain killed Abel. And "betrayal" almost in every story that has spiritual connotations rears its ugly head.
I just saw a review here on LibraryThing that said the reviewer would have given it 4 or 5 stars but the ending left her hanging... Well, it is a Trilogy. Why read books 2 or 3 if the ending is predictable in Book 1?
So... 5 Stars for The Judas Tree - Book 1. How will book 2 begin and how will it end? We must all stay tuned!
