Dennis Devine

This book seemed more about Dennis Devine than his famous dad Andy Devine but it still was quite interesting and provided enough information about Andy to get an idea of what he was like. The chapters are short and there are plenty of photographs although I would have liked to have seen some photos of the uniquely designed apartment buildings that Dennis designed. Growing up it seemed like Dennis was mainly on his own but he was ambitious and was able to participate in football and swimming and worked hard for his success. He did not rely on his dad to help him and in fact, Andy seemed somewhat remote from his son except for special fishing trips or events where they traveled together. However, there are some errors in the book: actress Gloria Stuart (Titanic) was referred to as Gloria Stewart and Martha Raye was Martha Ray. It was said that James Dean was killed when his car hit a tree when actually he was hit by another vehicle. The author also said that How the West Was Won was filmed in Cinemascope when it was actually Cinerama. If you can overlook the errors and the focus being more on Dennis than Andy, then the book isn’t too bad.… (mehr)
