This is a well researched volume for this series, devoted to the Battle of Monterrey although with preliminary text to lead up to the battle. The author has utilized contemporary published works by various participants fron the U.S. Army which is what one would hope to see, but he has included additional data from the Mexican perspective of the engagement, which for me was most welcome, although more information from the Mexican forces would have helped balance the book. While an Order of Battle for both sides would have helped and detailed battle maps of the diffrent phases and units involved, would have been of assistance. The various illustrations included in the book are well chosen, I would have prefered them not to have been printed on the text pages. Besides my small comments this is indeed a worthy volume for any student of this fascinating war.… (mehr)
